Hanover Court sewer work in Whitby is scheduled to begin with site preparation during the week of November 16, 2026, according to a new Region of Durham construction notice.
The October 15 notice says the Region has hired Ritestart Ltd. to replace an existing sanitary pumping station and force main near the street’s northern limit. The project is intended to support future development north of the current end of Hanover Court.
Bypass system to maintain service
Crews will replace the in-ground pumping station and use temporary bypass pumping during construction. The Region says continuous sanitary service will be maintained and it does not anticipate interruptions for connected homes.
The project also includes a new 75-millimetre high-density polyethylene force main installed by horizontal directional drilling. A new electrical feed and panel will support the upgraded equipment.
Construction is expected to be finished by February 28, 2027. Weather can affect the schedule, so the stated completion date is a target rather than a guaranteed finish.
Access and property surveys
Temporary lane restrictions and other construction-related traffic impacts may be needed at times. The Region says access to local homes will be maintained and residents will receive advance notice of significant traffic impacts.
The contractor will survey properties beside the work area before construction to document existing conditions. Follow-up surveys may take place afterward if required to check for construction-related impacts.
The notice is headed as a public-information-centre notice but its available text does not provide a meeting date, time or venue. This report does not invent one. Residents should consult the original Region notice for project-team contact information and any subsequent updates.
People travelling through the area are asked to be cautious around workers, pedestrians and cyclists. The service-continuity statement concerns sanitary sewage, not a separately announced drinking-water shutdown.
