Liverpool Road sidewalk closures will change pedestrian routes through part of central Pickering from Monday, October 19, as road improvements get underway.
The City says sidewalks on the east and west sides of Liverpool Road, between Pickering Parkway and Bayly Street, will close in rotation. The announced end date is Monday, January 25, 2027.
One sidewalk will stay open
People walking through the corridor will continue to have access to a sidewalk on one side of the road at all times, according to the municipal notice. The City will update closure and detour signs daily as the active work area changes.
The notice does not describe a simultaneous closure of both sidewalks. It also does not announce that Liverpool Road itself will close completely. The restriction is specifically a rotating pedestrian-access arrangement for road improvements.
Residents approaching the work area should use the open sidewalk and follow the posted detour signs rather than assume the same side will remain available throughout the project.
A different restriction from earlier lane work
These Liverpool Road sidewalk closures cover the stretch south of Pickering Parkway toward Bayly Street. They are distinct from previously reported curb-lane work farther north near the Highway 401 off-ramp and Walnut Lane extension, which had a different affected area and schedule.
The City has provided a service-announcement map with its notice. Residents who need clarification about pedestrian access can consult that map or call Pickering’s service disruption line at 1-866-278-9993.
