An Athol Street closure will affect through traffic in downtown Oshawa on October 15, 16, 19 and 20 while a mobile crane lifts materials at 39 Athol Street West.
The City of Oshawa says the closure will operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on those four dates. The road is to reopen after working hours.
The affected section is between Centre Street and Simcoe Street, with the hard closure directly in front of 39 Athol Street. Full access to the Michael Starr building will be maintained, according to the notice.
No emergency through access during closure
The city says emergency vehicles will not have through access while the closure is in place. Road-closure and detour signs will be installed in accordance with provincial standards.
Drivers should note that the notice specifies four workdays, rather than a continuous October 15-to-20 shutdown. The listed dates are Thursday and Friday, followed by Monday and Tuesday.
The city attributes the interruption to the lifting operation at the construction site, not a permanent change to the street.
The schedule is from the City of Oshawa’s October 9 notice. The closure was also reported by Durham Post on October 14. The city’s exact four-date schedule is used here.
