A Taste of Science exhibit is offering Pickering residents a free way to explore why food spoils and how preservation helps keep it safe and nutritious.
The exhibition runs from October 10 to December 31, 2026, at the John E. Anderson Gallery inside the Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre. The City of Pickering’s gallery page confirms both the dates and free admission.
Visitors can step into an oversized pantry and discover the science of food decay and preservation. The city describes an engaging exhibition intended to feed curiosity about familiar food and the processes that help it last.
Daily Durham reported on the current exhibition on October 16, identifying temperature, oxygen, water and pH among the topics explored. The city’s own description confirms the central food-science and preservation themes.
Gallery hours and location
The gallery is at 2365 Sixth Concession Road in Pickering. Its published hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
The John E. Anderson Gallery is Pickering’s first dedicated exhibition space. Located within the community and heritage centre, it occupies 1,000 square feet and presents changing exhibitions spanning art and historical subjects.
The science exhibition follows the gallery’s Ernie Coombs display, which ran from July to September. Current visitors should use the October-to-December dates rather than the schedule for that previous exhibition.
The city’s page provides contact information for the Dorsay centre for visitors who need to confirm arrangements before travelling. This report concerns the exhibition now on view; it does not describe a newly announced opening day or promise special programming not listed by the city.
