Durham College credit transfer changes will give eligible applicants an indication of which previous courses might count toward a new program before they accept an admission offer or pay a tuition deposit.
The college announced the new pre-assessment process on October 14. It begins with the Winter 2027 intake and is accompanied by the removal of the Credit Transfer application fee for students starting in Winter 2027 and later.
Earlier information before an admission decision
Transfer Services will examine eligible post-secondary transcripts received through the Ontario Colleges Application Service, known as OCAS. Staff will look for completed courses that already have an established transfer-credit equivalency at Durham College.
Where an equivalency is available, an applicant may receive an unofficial assessment identifying courses that could qualify. The college says this will help applicants understand their options before committing to their next program.
The change matters for students moving from another college or university who want to know whether earlier studies could reduce repeated coursework. It does not mean every course or every applicant will qualify.
Final approval still comes later
The pre-assessment is not a guarantee of transfer credit. A final review takes place only after a student accepts an offer and pays the non-refundable tuition deposit. Credits that pass that review are then placed on the student’s academic record.
Courses without an existing Durham College equivalency will continue through individual review by Transfer Services. Those applications will also be exempt from the application fee for students beginning in Winter 2027 or later.
The fee removal applies whether a potential credit is first identified through the new pre-assessment or submitted through the standard individual-review process. Durham College did not identify a new fee amount because the change eliminates that application charge.
Applicants should consult the college’s Transfer Services information for eligibility and assessment requirements. The Durham College credit transfer announcement changes when information may become available; final academic approval remains a separate step.
