A Port Perry homicide investigation is underway after a male was found dead on Water Street on Tuesday morning.
Durham Regional Police officers responded to a sudden-death call at about 8 a.m. on October 6. Police said a male was located deceased at the scene.
Water Street closed during investigation
Police closed Water Street between Queen Street and Mary Street while officers worked in the area. Drivers were asked to avoid the block and use another route.
Video from above the scene showed a forensic tent in a laneway. Durham police confirmed to CTV News Toronto that the Homicide Unit is investigating.
Police had not released the deceased person’s identity, age or any information about the circumstances of the death by the time of publication. No suspect description or arrest information was announced.
Police say updates will follow
Durham police said updates would be provided as they become available. The service’s public newsroom did not yet contain a formal release about the incident on Tuesday afternoon.
The involvement of the Homicide Unit does not by itself establish how the person died. Police described the original call as a sudden death, and the investigation remains active.
This report will be updated if police release confirmed information about the victim, the cause of death, arrests or charges in the Port Perry homicide investigation.
