Ryan Hedley scored three goals as the Oshawa Generals Windsor road game ended in a 5-1 victory for Oshawa on Saturday night.
The Generals took control early at the WFCU Centre and carried a four-goal lead into the third period. The result followed a 4-0 loss in Sarnia one night earlier.
Generals score twice in opening six minutes
Oshawa captain Harrison Franssen opened the scoring 3:39 into the first period, with Kane Cloutier recording the assist.
Hedley doubled the lead at 5:47. Brooks Rogowski and Caden Taylor assisted on the goal, which was credited as the game-winner.
The Generals entered the first intermission ahead 2-0 and continued to create separation in the second period.
Two quick goals build a four-goal lead
Brennan Huyck scored at 12:02 of the second period from Cole Mazzoni and Grant Yingst. Just 57 seconds later, Hedley added his second goal, assisted by Taylor and Rogowski.
Windsor’s Bogdan Yakushevsky ended Oshawa’s shutout bid 27 seconds into the third period. Anthony Cristoforo and Andrew Robinson earned the assists.
The Spitfires could not close the gap. Hedley completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal at 16:11 to make the final score 5-1.
Hedley named first star
The official Ontario Hockey League game summary named Hedley the first star. Franssen was second star and Oshawa goaltender Matthew Humphries was third.
Humphries stopped 28 of 29 Windsor shots. Oshawa directed 24 shots at the Spitfires’ net. The teams combined for only two minor penalties before two late Windsor misconducts.
The game began at 7:07 p.m. and ended at 9:21 p.m., with 4,475 people in attendance. The victory moved Oshawa back into the win column after the Generals were held scoreless in their previous two games.
