A new Oshawa footwear drive is collecting shoes for Durham Region students who may otherwise head to school in footwear that is worn out, damaged or no longer fits.
Oshawa Community Credit Union is partnering with the Ignite Durham Learning Foundation for the collection. Residents can bring new or gently used footwear to the OCCU branch from Monday, September 14 through Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The branch is located at 214 King Street East in Oshawa. OCCU’s posted weekday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; donors may want to confirm hours before visiting, especially around holidays.
Why properly fitting shoes matter at school
In its September member newsletter, OCCU said proper footwear supports a student’s comfort, confidence and ability to take part in school activities. The drive is intended to help local youth whose families may not be able to replace shoes that are worn or no longer fit.
Ignite Durham Learning Foundation is a charitable organization focused on removing financial barriers for students in the Durham District School Board. Its current back-to-school footwear campaign says the goal is to provide properly fitting footwear so students can participate comfortably and confidently.
People donating through OCCU should follow the credit union’s request for new or gently used footwear. Shoes should be clean, in wearable condition and suitable for another student.
