Uxbridge Youth Centre funding of $50,000 will support expanded local programs focused on employment readiness, mental health, food and life skills, and youth leadership.
The Township of Uxbridge announced the investment after the independent non-profit received support through Durham Region’s Thriving Communities Fund, part of the Community Social Investment Program.
The money will be directed to the centre’s Youth Pathways to Thriving Futures project. The township said the project is intended to expand structured programming while strengthening the organization’s capacity to reduce poverty-related barriers facing young people.
The Thriving Communities Fund supports operational and capacity-building projects at local non-profit organizations. These investments are designed to help agencies improve how they deliver programs and services to Durham residents.
Uxbridge Youth Centre is one of 11 organizations receiving support through this year’s fund. The municipality did not operate or select programs for the centre; it emphasized that the youth centre is an independent organization and is not run by the township.
The Uxbridge Youth Centre funding adds resources for practical supports that can help young people prepare for work, strengthen everyday skills and participate in leadership opportunities. Further information about the project is available from the centre.
