Oshawa Community Credit Union has congratulated Elizabeth as its 2026 CU Succeed Youth Bursary recipient, recognizing a local student as she begins the next stage of her education.
The credit union announced the recipient in its September 11 member newsletter. OCCU said it works with the Ontario Credit Union Foundation to support students pursuing higher education and described the bursary as part of its commitment to investing in local youth.
Ontario bursary program distributes $100,000 in 2026
The Ontario Credit Union Foundation says its CU Succeed Youth Bursary program is distributing $100,000 in 2026. Individual awards range from $1,000 to $3,000.
The program is open to eligible Ontario residents pursuing their first college diploma, undergraduate degree or Red Seal qualification. Academic, technical and vocational programs at accredited post-secondary institutions may qualify.
Financial need and community involvement are the program’s two primary selection criteria. The foundation also considers academic standing, an applicant’s personal statement and other circumstances included in the application.
Applicants or their parents must belong to a credit union that is a member of the Ontario Credit Union Foundation. Recipients must also have their own account at a participating credit union before an award can be deposited.
A decade of support for Ontario students
The foundation established the bursary in 2016. Its official program page says $836,000 has been awarded to 664 students over the program’s first 10 years.
OCCU did not disclose Elizabeth’s individual award amount in the member update. The credit union wished her and other students success as the new academic year gets underway.
Applications for the 2026 bursary opened April 30 and closed June 30. Students interested in a future intake can monitor the foundation’s official bursary site for the next application period and eligibility requirements.
