An Oshawa man faces eight counts in connection with an early-morning plaza shooting. The new Oshawa plaza shooting charges include allegations involving a loaded firearm and discharge with intent.
Police responded at about 2:15 a.m. on October 1 to a plaza near King Street East and Townline Road South.
Police allege firearm was discharged
A large altercation allegedly took place before one person displayed a firearm and began shooting toward another person. Officers found multiple shell casings. One suspect was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. No injuries were reported.
Eight charges laid
Police identified the accused as Ashtoney Thompson, 29, of Oshawa. He is charged with possession of a firearm without a licence, two counts of possession while prohibited, possession of a prohibited device, possession of a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, breach of probation and failing to comply with a release order.
He was held for a bail hearing. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The Oshawa plaza shooting charges materially advance the earlier report, which identified no accused person or charges.
