A Camp 30 panel in Bowmanville will bring former Durham MP Erin O’Toole and Canadian military historian Ted Barris together for a public discussion supporting preservation of the nationally significant site.
The Jury Lands Foundation is hosting “An Evening in Conversation” on Friday, October 30. The organization works to protect, preserve and share the history of Camp 30, Canada’s only surviving Second World War prisoner-of-war camp.
Panel focuses on preservation
O’Toole, a former federal Conservative leader, and Barris, a Member of the Order of Canada known for military-history work, will discuss preservation of the Bowmanville property.
The event begins at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church–St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Advance registration is required.
Camp 30 housed high-ranking German prisoners during the Second World War. Its surviving buildings and landscape are an important piece of Canadian home-front history.
The Camp 30 panel is a separate public event within the foundation’s wider preservation and education work.
