The Durham police Air4 helicopter is scheduled to be officially unveiled Tuesday morning at Oshawa Executive Airport.
Durham Regional Police Service plans to present the new Airbus H125 during a ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. on September 29. The event will introduce the aircraft as Air4.
Aircraft joins regional air-support initiative
Air4 is part of Ontario’s Joint Air Support Unit, a collaborative initiative involving police services across the Greater Toronto Area. The program is intended to provide participating services with access to airborne support.
Durham Police Chief Peter Moreira is expected to attend the unveiling. Durham Regional Police Services Board vice-chair Karen Fisher, Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner and Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter are also listed among the expected attendees.
The ceremony comes before the aircraft’s operational details have been publicly outlined in full. Information about deployment, staffing, equipment and how the unit will coordinate with other police services may be provided during or after the event.
The H125 is a light, single-engine helicopter manufactured by Airbus. Police and public-safety agencies can configure the model with mission-specific equipment, so a base-aircraft price does not by itself establish the final cost of a law-enforcement aircraft. No verified project cost was included in the available local report.
The Durham police Air4 helicopter unveiling is a scheduled announcement rather than confirmation that the aircraft is already in routine operational service. Further details will be reported when Durham police releases them.
