Uxbridge library and arena repairs are underway after two separate incidents damaged municipal facilities.
Scaffolding has been installed around the north end of the Uxbridge library while crews repair the clock tower roof. The Uxbridge Cosmos reports that lightning struck the roof July 28, damaging a small area that remained covered by a tarp.
New lightning rod planned
Library manager Corrinne Morrison said the project will include installation of a new lightning rod. No one was injured in the July incident.
Arena community centre remains usable
Crews are also repairing the west wall of the Uxbridge arena’s community centre after a vehicle struck the building in late September. The hall closed briefly, but a temporary interior wall now allows continued use while permanent work proceeds.
The Cosmos reported that the hall was able to host a municipal candidates forum while repairs continued. No one was injured in the collision.
A completion date was not stated for either project. The Uxbridge library and arena repairs involve separate incidents at opposite ends of town.
