Residents looking ahead to a new season of recreation opportunities can soon register for Bowmanville Fall Programs, with the Municipality of Clarington opening registration for its fall lineup on Sept. 2 at 7 a.m.
This year’s selection will include a variety of activities for different ages and interests across Clarington. Swimming lessons, fitness classes, programs for adults 55 and older, general recreation activities and sports are among the options expected to be available.
One of the biggest additions to the fall schedule will be programming at the new South Bowmanville Recreation Centre, which is expected to open this fall.
The facility’s inaugural season will give residents their first opportunity to participate in organized recreational activities at the long-awaited community centre.
New South Bowmanville Recreation Centre Programs
The first season at the South Bowmanville Recreation Centre will feature a broad selection of sports and fitness activities.
According to the program information provided by Clarington, residents will be able to register for activities including flag football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, circuit training, dodgeball and children’s fitness programs.
The range of activities is intended to provide options for both organized sports and general fitness as the new recreation centre begins welcoming the community.
The South Bowmanville Recreation Centre itself represents a major addition to Clarington’s recreation infrastructure.
Plans for the facility include a FIFA-size soccer dome that will provide significant indoor space for soccer and other activities. The centre will also feature two fully accessible basketball courts and multi-purpose rooms designed to accommodate fitness and recreational programming.
An outdoor refrigerated skating trail will provide another recreation option during colder months.
Together, the different amenities are expected to allow the centre to accommodate numerous sports, fitness activities and community programs throughout the year.
New Program Encourages Women and Girls in Sports
Clarington is also introducing a new initiative this fall called Her Game, Our Goal.
The program is designed to encourage greater participation by women and girls in sports.
As part of the initiative, free tennis and soccer programming will be offered, creating additional opportunities for participants to become involved in recreational sports without program fees.
The initiative joins the broader selection of Bowmanville Fall Programs and other activities being offered throughout Clarington.
Registration Opens Sept. 2
Registration for Clarington’s fall recreation programming officially begins at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Residents interested in participating are encouraged to prepare before registration opens, particularly for programs where spaces may be limited.
Clarington recommends that residents visit its online recreation registration system in advance to ensure their accounts and personal information are current.
Families can also browse available activities before registration day, allowing them to identify programs, schedules and locations that best meet their needs.
Registration will not be limited to the online system. Residents can also register in person at Clarington recreation facilities during regular operating hours.
New Recreation Opportunities for Bowmanville
The fall season will be particularly significant for Bowmanville residents because it marks the beginning of programming at the new South Bowmanville facility.
The combination of indoor sports areas, basketball courts, fitness and recreation rooms and the outdoor skating trail will expand the range of activities available locally.
With Bowmanville Fall Programs ranging from children’s fitness and team sports to adult activities and swimming programs elsewhere in Clarington, residents will have several options when registration begins.
The opening of the South Bowmanville Recreation Centre will also provide additional recreational capacity as Bowmanville and the wider Clarington community continue to grow.
Residents interested in participating should review the available programs ahead of time and be prepared when registration opens at 7 a.m. on Sept. 2.
