Oshawa Recreation Registration for fall and winter programs is opening this month, with residents able to sign up for swimming lessons beginning Aug. 18 and other recreation activities beginning Aug. 20.

The City of Oshawa is offering programming for young children, teens, adults and mixed-age groups, with activities ranging from fitness and dance to sports, swimming and seasonal camps.

Swimming registration opens Aug. 18

Registration for swimming lessons will open at 9 a.m. on Aug. 18.

The City’s online waiting room will open one hour earlier at 8 a.m.

Residents planning to register for swimming lessons should create or check their activeOshawa account before registration day and identify preferred programs in advance.

Doing so can make the process easier once registration officially opens.

Recreation programs open Aug. 20

Registration for fall and winter recreation activities will open at 9 a.m. on Aug. 20.

The same registration date will apply to winter holiday camps.

An online waiting room will again open at 8 a.m.

Programs include a wide range of activities designed for different ages and interests.

Available options include play days, guided workouts, dance classes, yoga sessions and instruction in several sports.

Families can browse available activities and course information through the activeOshawa registration system before registration opens.

How to prepare for registration

Residents who plan to participate in Oshawa Recreation Registration should create an activeOshawa account in advance.

After signing in, users can add family members by selecting the appropriate group-management options within their account.

On registration day, participants can search for a specific course using its course ID or browse available programs.

After selecting a program, users can view its details and register the appropriate family member.

Multiple programs can be added before proceeding to checkout and payment.

Wait-lists available for full programs

Some of Oshawa’s most popular recreation programs may reach capacity quickly.

If a course is already full, the activeOshawa website will provide an option to join a wait-list instead of registering directly.

Residents may later receive an opportunity to enrol if space becomes available.

Checking alternative dates or similar programs may also help families find available options.

No early registration for Oshawa residents this year

Earlier this year, Oshawa city council discussed introducing an earlier registration period exclusively for city residents.

Under the proposal, Oshawa residents would have been able to register approximately one week before non-residents.

Councillors generally supported the concept, but it will not be implemented for the current registration period because of limitations with the City’s existing recreation software.

Municipal staff are examining possible options for future registration cycles.

Financial assistance available

The City also offers support for Oshawa residents who may face financial barriers to participating in recreation activities.

Programs are available to help eligible residents access recreational opportunities at reduced cost.

Families concerned about program fees can review the City’s recreation assistance and support options before registering.

Residents encouraged to plan ahead

With swimming registration beginning Aug. 18 and other fall and winter programs opening Aug. 20, residents have separate dates to remember.

Preparing an activeOshawa account, choosing preferred programs and recording course IDs before registration opens can help make the process smoother.

Oshawa Recreation Registration will provide residents with access to swimming, fitness, sports, dance, camps and other activities throughout the upcoming fall and winter seasons.
