Vinton Euler, a Durham resident, has qualified to compete in the IRONMAN World Triathlon Championship in Kona, Hawaii on October 10, 2026. He qualified by winning his age group at the IRONMAN Lake Placid NY triathlon on July 19, 2026. This was his first attempt at a full triathlon.
The Lake Placid Triathlon started at 6:30am with a 2.4 mile swimming race in Mirror Lake, followed by a 112 mile bicycle race through the mountainous terrain of New York’s Adirondacks, followed by a 26.2 mile Marathon run on the same hilly terrain. He emerged from the swim at 59 minutes, shed his wet suit and bicycled for the next 5 hours and 20 minutes. He started behind in the third and final leg, the Marathon, but he ran the Marathon in 2 hours, 47 minutes, over 15 minutes faster than anyone else in his age group, to finish in first place of the 196 competitors in the Men’s age 18-24 group. The first place finisher automatically qualifies to enter the IRONMAN World Championship.
Vinton has been a dedicated distance runner since High School. During the past 2 years at Colorado College, he has run the Pikes Peak Ascent which is a grueling 13.3 mile, 7,800 foot vertical ascent to the Pikes Peak summit. He finished 8th in his age group of 56 competitors and 40th overall of the 1,600 runners who completed the race in September 2025.
On March 27, 2026, Vinton competed in “55 Miles”, an ultra marathon race that starts in the Garden of the Gods. He finished 6th in the 55 Miles. Bicycle racing is a new sport for Vinton and he first began serious bike training in February 2026.
Vinton graduated from Durham School of Arts HS in 2023 where he lettered in cross country, swim team, tennis team, and track. He qualified for the NC state championship meets in cross country, swimming, and track. He is the son of Kurt and Betsy Euler of Durham, NC.
