Oshawa Amazon series filming at an east-end motel will bring overnight production activity, additional vehicles and traffic disruptions to the King Street East area beginning this week.
The City of Oshawa has granted a noise exemption for film production at 695 King Street East, the location of the Kingsway Motel.
The production is operating under the working title “Honcho” and has been widely reported as being connected to the Prime Video series Reacher. However, the City of Oshawa’s official production notice does not identify the television series by name.
Production preparations have already been underway at the motel.
Overnight Oshawa filming schedule
The City of Oshawa has confirmed filming and related noise during the following periods:
- Thursday, Aug. 20: 4 p.m. to Friday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m.
- Friday, Aug. 21: 4:30 p.m. to Saturday, Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m.
- Monday, Aug. 24: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 25: noon to Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 4 a.m.
- Wednesday, Aug. 26: 2 p.m. to Thursday, Aug. 27 at 4 a.m.
Residents near the filming location should expect overnight and early-morning noise, including generators.
Action scenes planned at King Street motel
According to information provided about the production, filming will include staged action sequences involving performers and vehicles.
The area is also expected to see additional production vehicles, equipment, crew members and temporary lighting during filming.
Oshawa normally restricts night filming in residential areas after 11 p.m. unless written approval is obtained from the city, which is why a noise exemption has been issued for this production.
Road disruptions expected during Oshawa filming
Residents and motorists should also prepare for temporary traffic impacts around the production site.
Farewell Street between King Street East and Athol Street East is expected to close during filming periods, while motorists on King Street East could encounter intermittent traffic stops.
The City’s general filming rules require permits for road closures and require paid-duty police officers when traffic is stopped for filming.
Set removal and restoration work at the motel is expected to continue after filming concludes.
Is the production Reacher Season 5?
Ontario Creates lists a streaming production called HONCHO as being in production from July 20 through early December. The provincial production listing names JRS5 TV Productions and producer Nick Santora.
Entertainment industry reporting has identified HONCHO as the working title for the fifth season of Reacher, starring Alan Ritchson.
Oshawa and Durham Region have also hosted Reacher production before. The City’s own film-production history lists Jack Reacher among television projects previously filmed in Oshawa.
However, because the city’s current notice does not officially name the production, the connection should be described as reported rather than municipally confirmed.
The Oshawa Amazon series filming will bring its most significant overnight activity to the King Street East area between Aug. 20 and Aug. 27.
