An Ajax 66-townhome proposal will go to a virtual statutory public meeting September 21 after the project was revised from the 81-unit plan approved in 2024.

The site is at the southeast corner of Rossland Road West and Harkins Drive in Ward 1. The new concept contains three three-storey stacked-townhouse blocks with at-grade parking.

Earlier approval allowed about 81 units

Ajax Council approved Official Plan Amendment OPA24-A3 and Zoning By-law Amendment Z7/24 on September 16, 2024. Those approvals allowed three- to four-storey stacked-townhouse blocks with approximately 81 homes.

The applicant has since proposed a different layout. Zoning By-law Amendment Z17/26 would change the site-specific standards in Exception 193 so the revised 66-unit design can proceed.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area is identified in local reporting as the applicant behind the revised proposal.

Virtual public meeting set for Sept. 21

The meeting begins at 1 p.m. Monday, September 21 and will be livestreamed at ajax.ca/live. Anyone who wants to speak must email the Clerk’s office before noon on Friday, September 18. Registered speakers will have five minutes to address Council.

Written comments can be sent to Ajax Planning Services or submitted through the project’s In My Opinion page before the same noon deadline.

Proposal is not yet a final new approval

The public notice is an opportunity to comment before Council considers the implementing by-law. The revised design should not be described as finally approved until Council completes that process.

Under current Planning Act rules described by the Town, appeal rights are limited. Residents and public bodies interested in the proposal should review the official notice for participation and notification requirements.
