The weekend in southern Ontario is expected to begin with a mix of snow and rain, with changing weather conditions in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Durham Region, and surrounding areas. According to Environment Canada, Saturday morning will be cloudy, with a 40% to 60% chance of flurries, which will transition into rain or more snow by noon in areas such as Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa, and Niagara Falls.
A southwest wind blowing at 20 km/h will accompany these conditions, with temperatures expected to reach a high of around 4°C in Mississauga. As the day continues, the weather will shift, and snow is expected to accumulate, especially in Oshawa and Pickering, where up to 2 to 4 cm of snow may fall by Saturday evening. The snow and rain will create slippery conditions and may cause disruptions to travel in these areas.
Later on Saturday evening, the chance of snow will increase to 60% in Mississauga, and additional snowfall is expected, further complicating road conditions. The overnight low will drop to around 0°C in Mississauga, and colder temperatures will continue to affect the region.
On Sunday, the weather will remain cloudy, with a 40% chance of flurries and temperatures reaching a high of 1°C. The likelihood of snow will persist, and the overall weather will stay chilly, affecting parts of Durham Region and southern Ontario. Pickering, Oshawa, and other nearby areas should expect another cold day with occasional snow.
By Monday, even colder temperatures are expected to settle in, with a low of -15°C in Mississauga and across the GTA. The colder front will bring freezing conditions, and residents will need to prepare for a significant drop in temperature. People in Durham Region should anticipate colder mornings and evening chill, especially with snow continuing through the early part of the week.
This weather pattern will bring a mix of snow and rain, and although it might not result in major accumulation everywhere, slippery roads and poor visibility can still cause travel issues. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and plan ahead for delays caused by changing conditions. For those living in Durham Region, including Oshawa and Pickering, it is important to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts as the situation evolves.
Given the potential for snow accumulation, it’s advisable to take necessary precautions and avoid non-essential travel during periods of heavy snow and rain. Environment Canada recommends keeping an eye on weather updates, especially if you’re planning to travel over the weekend.
