Durham Region Transit riders in Courtice, Pickering and Port Perry should check their stops after one new DRT detour began September 8 and two construction-related relocations were extended.
The most immediate change affects Route 421 in Courtice. Construction on Trulls Road between Avondale Drive and Sandringham Drive has forced buses onto Brownstone Crescent, Granary Lane and Sandringham Drive. Durham Region Transit says the detour will remain in place until further notice.
Three Route 421 stops temporarily missed
Route 421 will not serve the following stops while the Trulls Road detour is active:
- Stop 1230 — Avondale southbound at Farmington
- Stop 1231 — Trulls northbound at Avondale
- Stop 1232 — northbound at 2501 Trulls Road
DRT is directing passengers to two alternatives: Stop 1229 at Avondale southbound and Brownstone, or Stop 1233 at Sandringham westbound and Bushford.
Port Perry Walmart stop closure extended
In Port Perry, the temporary closure of Stop 3300 at Highway 7A westbound and SmartCentres Port Perry has been extended to Friday, September 25. The stop is affected by construction at the Walmart property and serves Routes 618 and 905C.
Northbound buses on Routes 905C and 618 are using a temporary stop on the SmartCentres driveway near the south entrance to the Bulk Barn parking lot. Route 618 southbound is serving a temporary stop on the same commercial driveway near the Scotiabank entrance.
Pickering stop relocation continues to September 19
DRT also extended the temporary relocation of Stop 1608 on Kingston Road westbound at Glenanna Road in Pickering to September 19. The affected routes are 900, 920, 921 and N1.
Passengers who normally use Stop 1608 should board at the temporary stop on Kingston Road westbound at Glengrove Road, on the east side of the intersection.
Construction schedules and detours can change with little notice. Riders should allow extra time and check DRT’s current service alerts and detours before travelling. Trip information is also available through DRT customer service by calling 311 within Durham Region or 1-866-247-0055.
