An Uxbridge Curling Club grant worth $200,000 will help the community facility replace an aging roof membrane and improve insulation.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation capital grant will support work on the wood-framed roof, which has a membrane dating back about 65 years, according to local reports.
Work planned around curling season
The project is expected to replace the failing membrane and underside sheathing. New insulation will be added beneath the replacement roof to improve the building envelope.
Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-April 2027 and continue until September 1. That timing is intended to reduce disruption to the club’s regular curling operations.
Pickering-Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy met with club members on October 2 to recognize the provincial funding.
Volunteer-run club serves more than 300 members
The Uxbridge Curling Club has more than 300 members and relies on volunteers. The organization also operates a youth program that provides local schools with free ice time.
Replacing the roof is intended to protect the long-running facility and help it continue offering affordable recreation. The available reports did not provide the project’s total cost beyond the value of the grant.
The Uxbridge Curling Club grant was announced ahead of the planned spring and summer construction window.
