A female is facing serious charges after stabbing another female in Pickering on Friday morning.
On Friday, April 24, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., members of the Durham Regional Police West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Kingston Road and Liverpool Road in Pickering. Upon arrival, officers determined that two females had been involved in an altercation when one of them brandished a knife and stabbed the other.
The Pickering stabbing suspect attempted to flee the area following the incident but was quickly located by responding officers and taken into custody without incident. The swift apprehension was credited to the rapid response and coordination of West Division officers.
The victim was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Medical staff are providing ongoing care and the victim is expected to recover from her injuries.
Police have confirmed that the victim and the accused are known to each other, indicating that this was not a random act of violence. The relationship between the two individuals has not been publicly disclosed.
The accused, a 38-year-old female of no fixed address, has been formally charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. She was held for a bail hearing following her arrest.
Aggravated assault is one of the most serious charges in the Criminal Code of Canada, carrying a maximum penalty of up to 14 years in prison. Assault with a weapon carries its own significant penalties, particularly when the weapon involved is a knife.
