The Pan-American Sixes lacrosse championships begin Tuesday, September 29, at Oshawa Civic Fields, bringing 16 national teams to the city for six days of competition tied directly to the Olympic pathway.
World Lacrosse announced that eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams will compete through Sunday, October 4. The event is the first continental qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships in Colorado Springs, where teams can earn places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Five qualification places available in each competition
The top five teams in both tournaments will advance to the 2027 world championship. Each competition has two pools of four teams, with round-robin games scheduled from Tuesday through Saturday.
Pool winners will play for gold on Sunday and second-place teams will play for bronze. The fifth-place game in each competition will decide the final direct qualification berth.
Canada, the United States and the Haudenosaunee headline both fields. The men’s tournament also includes Brazil, Chile, Jamaica, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Argentina joins Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico and Puerto Rico in the women’s field.
Oshawa hosts first step toward LA28
Sixes is the compact lacrosse format selected for the sport’s return to the Olympic program in Los Angeles. World Lacrosse said Oshawa Civic Fields has hosted its Super Sixes tournament for four consecutive years, from 2022 through 2025.
Live statistics will be posted separately for the men’s and women’s events. World Lacrosse is streaming the tournament through WL TV, while Lacrosse Canada is handling tickets for in-person attendance.
The Pan-American Sixes lacrosse championships place Oshawa at the start of a two-stage qualification route: teams must first reach the 2027 world championship, then secure an Olympic berth there.
