The Oshawa Generals Barrie win came from a late third-period comeback as the Generals beat the Colts 4-2 Saturday night at Sadlon Centre.
Oshawa entered the September 26 game after a 6-0 loss in Guelph. Barrie led 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 after the second despite the Generals holding a 23-13 advantage in shots through 40 minutes.
Three late goals decide the game
Onni Kalto scored Oshawa’s first goal during a five-minute power play in the second period. Barrie answered shortly afterward and carried its one-goal lead into the third.
Harrison Franssen tied the game late in the third period when a Brooks Rogowski shot deflected off him and into the net. It was Franssen’s first goal since being named captain.
Just over 30 seconds later, Leo Laschon scored through traffic to give Oshawa a 3-2 lead with 59 seconds remaining. Linus Funck then added an empty-net goal from the defensive zone.
Matthew Humphries made his first start of the season after returning from Dallas Stars training camp. Oshawa’s power play finished one-for-seven, while the Generals produced 22 shots in the third period.
Generals return home Sunday
The result gave Oshawa a split of its two road games this weekend. The Generals return to the Tribute Communities Centre on Sunday to face the Brantford Bulldogs at 6:05 p.m.
