A popular handcrafted gelato brand is continuing its expansion across Ontario with the opening of a new dessert shop in Whitby just in time for the busy spring and summer season.
Nani’s Gelato Whitby officially celebrated the grand opening of its newest location on April 30 at 370 Taunton Road East.
The growing dessert chain has become known for combining Italian-style gelato traditions with South Asian-inspired flavours and ingredients, creating a unique menu that continues attracting customers across the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
According to the company, the name “Nani” means grandmother in several South Asian languages and reflects the brand’s family-inspired roots and focus on homemade-style desserts.
The founder, Parry, began professional frozen dessert training in 2018, including studies at the University of Wisconsin’s Ice Cream Short Course and additional artisanal gelato training alongside an Italian gelato maker in the United States.
What began as a custom gelato food truck operating in downtown Toronto eventually expanded into storefront locations and a larger production facility in Mississauga before growing into a franchise brand across Canada.
The new Nani’s Gelato Whitby location now joins a growing network of stores that includes 14 locations across Ontario as well as additional shops in Alberta and British Columbia.
The Whitby shop offers a wide selection of frozen desserts, including gelato scoops, milkshakes, soft serve, gelato bars, gelato sandwiches, gelato cakes, and gelato pies.
Customers visiting Nani’s Gelato Whitby can choose from a variety of handcrafted flavours such as Mango Lychee Sorbetto, Pistachio, Hazelnut Rocher, Oreo Cookies & Cream, Vegan Dark Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Salted Dark Chocolate Chip, Strawberry, and Saffron Cardamom Kulfi.
The menu also features specialty desserts and drinks including affogatos, mango lassi beverages, Lotus Biscoff sundaes, and soft serve flavours like Vanilla Bean and Biscoff.
As warmer weather arrives across Durham Region and southern Ontario, dessert and ice cream businesses typically experience increased demand during the spring and summer months.
New food and dessert openings continue expanding throughout Whitby and Durham Region as residential growth and population increases drive demand for new dining and retail options.
The opening of Nani’s Gelato Whitby adds another specialty dessert destination to the growing Taunton Road commercial corridor, which has seen significant retail and restaurant development in recent years.
Operating hours for the Whitby location are:
- Sunday: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Monday to Thursday: 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.
The company says all gelato is handcrafted in-house using fresh ingredients and flavour combinations inspired by a mix of Asian, Indian, and Italian dessert traditions.
As dessert-focused businesses continue growing across Ontario, specialty gelato brands like Nani’s Gelato Whitby are increasingly attracting customers looking for premium frozen treats and unique flavour options beyond traditional ice cream shops.
