A Whitby 401 off-ramp closure will accompany lane restrictions on Consumers Drive as Durham Region completes curb, sidewalk and paving work this month.
Daytime curb and sidewalk replacement is underway and is expected to continue until October 15. Overnight paving is scheduled from October 15 through October 31, although unfavourable weather could change the timetable.
Consumers Drive restrictions cover a key commercial corridor
The lane restrictions apply on Consumers Drive from Brock Street to a point 60 metres east of Sunray Street. The work area includes a busy Whitby commercial corridor near the Highway 401 interchange.
Durham Region says the westbound Highway 401 off-ramp at Brock Street will close while paving takes place on Consumers Drive between Brock Street and the interchange. The notice does not give a separate list of closure nights, so drivers should check current traffic information before travelling during the overnight paving period.
The work is required for road rehabilitation and paving. Drivers should expect delays, allow extra travel time and use caution around pedestrians, cyclists and construction crews.
Transit service remains open
Bus routes and bus stops will remain open throughout the project. Riders and motorists may still encounter slower traffic as lanes are restricted and paving equipment operates in the area.
Durham Region maintains an online Traffic Watch map with current road information. The Whitby 401 off-ramp closure and Consumers Drive restrictions are intended to keep crews and road users safe while the rehabilitation is completed.
