Four individuals are facing serious criminal charges following a comprehensive break-and-enter investigation in the town of Ajax. The incident, involving allegations of drug trafficking and weapons offences, occurred on the morning of Friday, May 22, 2026. The arrests were executed by officers from the Durham Regional Police Service after they observed suspicious activity in a commercial sector of the municipality. This significant development highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to address criminal activity and maintain public safety within the region.
At approximately 8:55 a.m., members of the West Division Community Response Unit, assisted by front-line officers, were conducting proactive patrols in the area of Commercial Avenue and Hunt Street. During these targeted patrols, police observed two subjects entering a secured sea can container without authorization. Upon checking the container, officers located four individuals inside the enclosure. All four were taken into custody without incident, allowing for the immediate and secure containment of the scene to preserve potential evidence and prevent further escalation.
A subsequent search of the suspects revealed a variety of alleged illicit items, raising concerns about the scope of the criminal operation. Officers located break-in tools and a quantity of cash, suggesting premeditated intent. Additionally, the search resulted in the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and drugs suspected to be controlled substances. The narcotics included fentanyl, MDMA, and cocaine—substances known for their high potential for harm and addiction. These discoveries led to specific trafficking charges against some of the accused, emphasizing the gravity of the investigation and the threat to community well-being.
Robert-Lee George, a 41-year-old resident of Pickering, faces multiple charges including possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking for both fentanyl and cocaine. He is also charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, break-and-enter, and possessing break-in instruments. George faces an additional charge for failing to comply with a release order. At the time of his arrest, the accused was reportedly subject to weapons prohibition conditions, indicating a breach of legal restrictions designed to protect the public.
Jefferson Kempes McQuillan, 47, of no fixed address, is charged with break-and-enter and possessing break-in instruments. He also faces a charge for possessing a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking involving MDMA, as well as failing to comply with an undertaking. Authorities allege that McQuillan was also bound by weapons prohibition conditions when he was taken into custody by police, adding a layer of severity to the allegations and demonstrating a pattern of non-compliance with court directives.
Fabien Belanga Lwamba, 30, from Oshawa, and Ashley Suzanne Magee, 38, of no fixed address, have each been charged with break-and-enter and possessing break-in instruments in connection with the incident. Following their apprehension, all four accused were held in custody to attend a bail hearing at a local court facility. The police investigation highlighted the effective collaboration between the West Division Community Response Unit and front-line officers in disrupting this alleged criminal operation and ensuring the suspects were processed efficiently.
