Durham Region residents looking for coffee, breakfast or fast food on Labour Day should check before heading out, as hours will vary at Tim Hortons, Starbucks and McDonald’s locations on Monday, Sept. 7.
The Durham Labour Day hours for individual restaurants are not set under one region-wide schedule.
Some locations are expected to remain open, while others may operate with reduced hours depending on the restaurant, franchise operator, building location and customer demand.
Starbucks hours may vary on Labour Day
Starbucks has advised customers that individual store hours may change for Labour Day.
Durham residents can check a specific location using the Starbucks Canada store locator or mobile app.
The locator allows customers to enter their location and view nearby stores. Individual store information can then be opened to review available hours and services.
This is especially useful for customers choosing between standalone Starbucks locations and stores located inside larger retail properties, where holiday schedules can differ.
How to check McDonald’s Labour Day hours
McDonald’s Canada also says restaurant hours can vary depending on location.
Customers can use the company’s online restaurant locator and enter a city, province or postal code to find nearby restaurants.
The locator also provides options for features such as drive-thru service, 24-hour restaurants, McCafé, Wi-Fi and other services.
Durham residents should check the listing for the specific McDonald’s they plan to visit rather than assuming its regular Monday schedule will apply on Labour Day.
Will Tim Hortons be open Sept. 7?
Many Tim Hortons restaurants may remain open on Labour Day, but hours can vary.
Customers can search for their closest location through the Tim Hortons store locator.
After selecting a restaurant, users can review location information and operating hours.
With numerous Tim Hortons locations across Durham Region, holiday schedules may not be identical from one restaurant to another.
A 24-hour location, for example, may follow a different schedule from one operating inside another business or commercial property.
Labour Day is a public holiday in Ontario
Labour Day is observed on the first Monday in September and is an Ontario public holiday.
In 2026, Labour Day falls on Monday, Sept. 7.
Many employees who qualify under Ontario employment standards are entitled to the holiday and public holiday pay.
However, some businesses and employees continue operating on holidays, including parts of the hospitality and food-service industries.
That is why restaurants, coffee shops and drive-thru businesses may still be available even when many other workplaces are closed.
Check before leaving home
The safest approach for Durham residents is to confirm the specific restaurant before travelling.
For the most accurate Durham Labour Day hours, customers can:
- check the official Starbucks store locator or app;
- search the McDonald’s Canada restaurant locator;
- use the Tim Hortons store locator;
- call the restaurant directly if holiday hours are unclear.
Hours can sometimes change with little notice, so checking again shortly before visiting is recommended.
Tim Hortons, Starbucks and McDonald’s may all have locations operating across Durham Region on Labour Day, but customers should not expect every restaurant to follow normal Monday hours.
