Beaverton, Ontario – A high-risk takedown by Durham Regional Police led to the capture of three suspects involved in an armed home invasion early Tuesday morning in the Lake Simcoe community of Beaverton.
At around 4:30 a.m. on April 1, 2026, police responded to a call from residents of a home on Highland Crescent and Centre Street who had witnessed a man outside their front door armed with a firearm. The residents fled the home in fear. Shortly after, two suspects forcibly entered the home, and the situation escalated as they attempted to flee in a vehicle driven by a third suspect.
When officers arrived at the scene, they executed a high-risk takedown of the vehicle. All three suspects were arrested without incident. A search of the vehicle turned up a sawed-off shotgun and an imitation firearm, adding to the seriousness of the crime.
Charges Laid Against Suspects
The three men arrested were later identified as Cory Briere, Chad Deforest, and Aaron Munro, all facing a range of charges related to the armed home invasion.
- Cory Briere, 37, from Washago, is charged with five weapons offences, break-and-enter, and possession of a schedule I substance. At the time of his arrest, Briere was already under firearms prohibition conditions.
- Chad Deforest, 42, from Oro-Medonte, faces two weapons charges, break-and-enter, and failure to comply with a release order. Deforest was also found to be on weapons prohibition conditions.

All three suspects were held for a bail hearing.
