Whitby Civic Holiday closures will affect Town Hall, libraries, recreation facilities and waste collection on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Most municipal facilities will close for the holiday and reopen during regular business hours on Tuesday, August 4.
Several arenas will remain open to host games during the 2026 Ontario Lacrosse Festival, while Anne Ottenbrite Pool will offer limited drop-in swimming.
Municipal Buildings and Libraries Closed
Whitby Town Hall and most other municipal facilities will be closed on Civic Holiday Monday.
All Whitby Public Library locations will also close for the day and reopen Tuesday.
Residents requiring municipal services should use available online options or contact the town after offices reopen.
Regularly scheduled recreation programs at closed facilities will not operate Monday.
Lacrosse Festival Venues Remain Open
Whitby is hosting teams for the Ontario Lacrosse Festival from July 31 through August 9.
The following facilities will remain open for tournament activities on Monday:
- Fieldgate Sports Complex
- Iroquois Park Sports Centre
- McKinney Centre
- Luther Vipond Memorial Arena
Only the arena portion of Fieldgate Sports Complex will be available during the festival. Other areas of the new facility will not be open for general public use.
The tournament is described by organizers as the world’s largest youth lacrosse festival and brings teams from multiple age divisions to Whitby each summer.
Visitors should expect additional activity around the tournament venues and allow extra travel time.
Monday Swimming Available at Anne Ottenbrite Pool
Anne Ottenbrite Pool at Iroquois Park Sports Centre will offer drop-in swimming on Monday.
Swimmers should check Whitby’s online recreation schedule before travelling because individual program times, capacity limits and admission requirements may apply.
The Whitby Civic Recreation Complex will be closed Monday.
Waste Collection Delayed One Day
There will be no residential waste collection in Whitby on August 3.
Collection will occur one day later than normally scheduled during the holiday week. Residents whose regular collection day is Friday will receive service Saturday morning.
Regular collection schedules will resume during the week beginning August 10.
Residents can confirm their personalized collection date through Whitby’s online waste calendar or the Waste Buddy application. The calendar provides address-specific information for garbage, green-bin, recycling and yard-waste collection.
Waste should be placed at the curb by the required collection time on the adjusted day.
Most services affected by the Whitby Civic Holiday closures will return to normal on Tuesday, August 4.
