Ajax Pickering Civic Holiday closures will affect municipal buildings, recreation facilities, libraries, transit and waste collection on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Many private retailers and restaurants are expected to remain open, but individual businesses may operate on reduced holiday hours.
Residents should confirm operating times before visiting a store, recreation facility or transit stop.
Ajax Civic Holiday Hours
Municipal buildings and indoor recreation centres in Ajax will be closed on Monday. Regular recreation programs scheduled inside the affected facilities will be cancelled.
Ajax Memorial Outdoor Pool at 55 Harwood Avenue South is scheduled to remain open for holiday swimming.
The published schedule lists public swimming from:
- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
- 6 to 8 p.m.
Lane swimming is scheduled from:
- 10 to 11:30 a.m.
- 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
- 5 to 6 p.m.
Regular admission fees apply. Pool schedules can change because of weather, staffing or operational conditions, so swimmers should check with the Town of Ajax before attending.
Most privately operated retail stores may open at their discretion.
The Beer Store is listed as open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The LCBO at Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue is also listed as open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., while Ajax’s other LCBO stores are expected to close.
Customers should verify alcohol-retailer hours online because only selected locations operate on the Civic Holiday.
Pickering Civic Holiday Closures
Pickering municipal buildings will be closed Monday.
The closures include:
- Pickering City Hall
- Pickering Public Library locations
- Pickering Museum Village
- Municipal recreation centres
- Community facilities
The Shops at Pickering City Centre is expected to remain open, along with many privately operated stores and restaurants.
The Beer Store is listed as open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The LCBO stores near Brock and Kingston roads and Whites and Kingston roads are also listed as open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Holiday hours may change, so customers should confirm the schedule for their chosen location before travelling.
Waste Collection Delayed
Garbage, recycling, green-bin and other curbside collections scheduled during the holiday week will generally occur one day later than usual.
Residents should confirm their collection day using Durham Region’s online waste calendar or mobile application.
Items should be placed at the curb by the required collection time on the adjusted day.
Durham Region Transit Weekend Service
Durham Region Transit will operate on a weekend schedule Monday.
The DRT Customer Service Desk and regular Customer Service Call Centre will be closed.
On Demand service can still be reserved through the DRT On Demand application or by telephone during its holiday operating hours.
Passengers should review their route because weekend service may run less frequently than regular weekday service.
GO Transit Saturday Schedule
GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule for the Civic Holiday.
This applies to GO trains and buses serving Ajax, Pickering and other communities across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Some routes do not offer Saturday service. Travellers should use the GO Transit trip planner to confirm departure times and connections.
Most municipal and regional services affected by the Ajax Pickering Civic Holiday closures are expected to return to their regular schedules on Tuesday, August 4.
