The Oshawa FireWolves, a National Lacrosse League (NLL) team, are on a winning streak and preparing for a big promotion at their next game on Saturday, March 26, 2026, at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa. After starting their season at the bottom of the NLL standings with a 2-10 record, the FireWolves have bounced back with two consecutive wins, giving fans renewed hope for the playoffs – although the road to post-season play remains slim.
In an interview, FireWolves President Chris Porreca expressed excitement about the team’s recent success, but noted that much of the focus remains on community engagement and fan experience. “Winning is always a good thing,” said Porreca, “but from an entertainment perspective, we have to make sure we have everything in place so people will want to come back, no matter what the outcome of the game was.”
The upcoming game against the Rochester Knighthawks (5-8) will feature a special Marvel Super Hero Night that promises to bring plenty of excitement both on and off the field. Fans will get a chance to see the FireWolves players dressed in Deadpool-inspired jerseys, which will be auctioned off at the game. The night will also include a costume contest where fans can come dressed as their favorite superheroes, adding a fun, interactive element to the event.
In addition to the superhero-themed activities, the FireWolves will honor local Community Super Heroes at the game. Fans are encouraged to nominate military personnel, police officers, firefighters, teachers, nurses, and others who are making a positive impact in the community. Porreca emphasized the importance of recognizing these individuals who contribute to the betterment of Oshawa and Durham Region.
Since the FireWolves moved to Oshawa from Albany, New York in the summer of 2025, the team has gained significant support from the local community. Fans have packed the Tribute Communities Centre for each of the team’s home games, with three games selling out and another nearly at capacity. The average attendance for the FireWolves’ home games has increased to 5,630 compared to last season’s 5,013 in Albany. The enthusiasm from fans has had a positive ripple effect on local businesses, with restaurants and bars in downtown Oshawa seeing an uptick in traffic before and after games.
“The support has been tremendous,” said Porreca. “People here know the game, and we knew that coming in so we’re not surprised by the support. The fans have been outstanding.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game, Porreca is optimistic about the FireWolves securing another win and is particularly excited about the Marvel Super Hero promotion, which will include a special National Lacrosse League comic featuring Oshawa’s own Dyson Williams on the cover. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a copy of the comic as a free giveaway.
Porreca summed up the excitement, saying, “It’ll be a fun night. Every night is a fun night because we want to have something for everyone.”
The Oshawa FireWolves have already proven to be an exciting addition to the local sports scene, and as they continue to build momentum on and off the field, the team looks forward to further connecting with the passionate lacrosse community in Durham Region.
