A Whitby impaired driving collision has resulted in several criminal charges after a driver allegedly caused a crash and fled the scene near a local school.
Durham Regional Police reported that officers responded to a Whitby impaired driving collision on January 30, 2026, at approximately 3:50 p.m. The incident occurred near Fifewood Crescent and Fallingbrook Street while parents and guardians were picking up children from a nearby public school.
Police said a grey Kia sedan collided with a parked white Hyundai sedan during the Whitby impaired driving collision. The Hyundai driver attempted to speak with the Kia driver following the crash, but the Kia fled the area shortly afterward.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver involved in the Whitby impaired driving collision appeared to be impaired. Officers later located the suspect vehicle at a nearby residence. Police stated that the driver showed clear signs of impairment and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the Whitby impaired driving collision.
Police conducted two separate breath tests, which allegedly showed blood alcohol readings of 170 mg and 180 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. The legal limit in Canada is 80 mg per 100 ml of blood.
As a result of the Whitby impaired driving collision, a 32-year-old woman from Whitby has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired exceeding the legal limit, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. She was later released on an undertaking.
