Five certified candidates are contesting the Uxbridge Ward 1 council seat in the 2026 municipal election, making it the township’s largest ward-level field.
The official candidate list names incumbent Pamela Beach, Karen Kenyon, Lori Kennedy, Colin Thacker and Victoria Devenport. The Uxbridge Cosmos published statements from Beach, Kennedy and Kenyon on September 9; it reported that Thacker and Devenport had not responded by its deadline.
Incumbent emphasizes roads and project completion
Beach is seeking a fourth term as Ward 1 councillor. In her statement to the Cosmos, she identified continued road resurfacing, speed-control infrastructure and advocacy for a greater police presence as priorities.
She also said she wants the township to complete major projects already underway and pursue opportunities that support long-term sustainability. Beach described her campaign as a continuation of her community service and noted that she has lived in the municipality throughout her life.
Kennedy focuses on affordability and transparency
Kennedy is running for public office for the first time. She told the Cosmos she has lived in Uxbridge for more than 34 years, including six years in Ward 1.
Her statement highlighted property-tax increases and the wider cost of living as concerns she has heard from residents. Kennedy also called for greater public involvement in decisions, clearer explanations of how council reaches decisions and more transparency around municipal spending.
Kenyon points to Goodwood and traffic concerns
Kenyon, identified as Karen Wood Kenyon in the Cosmos profile and as Karen Kenyon on the township’s certified list, said she has lived in Goodwood for more than 20 years. She cited community experience as a crossing guard, community-centre custodian and former caretaker of the local mail kiosk.
Kenyon said resident concerns should guide her priorities. Her statement identified regular police or radar enforcement, restoration of a speed board and stronger attention to truck compliance and local road rules among the issues she wants addressed.
Two candidates had not submitted profiles
The Cosmos said Thacker and Devenport did not provide statements before press time. Both remain certified Ward 1 candidates, according to the Township of Uxbridge. Their absence from the newspaper profile does not affect their status on the ballot.
Uxbridge has approved internet voting for the municipal election. The township says its voting period will open at 9 a.m. October 13 and close at 8 p.m. October 26.
