Rozi Roti Food Bank says its volunteers have delivered more than 250,000 meals to households across Durham Region over two years, while the organization continues looking for a permanent operating space.
The figure comes from the group’s own impact report for September 6, 2024, to September 6, 2026. It is an organization-reported total, not an independently audited count.
Daily Durham reported on October 15 that the food bank has been working from two garages. Founder Laeeq Qureshi told the outlet the group needs suitable, affordable premises for storage, sorting and distribution.
Groceries delivered without a pickup queue
The service delivers halal groceries free to the door, with a coverage area described as stretching from Pickering to Bowmanville. Support is available to people in need regardless of their faith, culture or background.
The impact report describes an intake process in which volunteers review applications and documents and speak directly with households before arranging deliveries. Families are not charged for intake or delivery.
Privacy is part of the approach. The organization says its delivery vehicles and boxes do not carry food-bank branding, so neighbours do not have to know a household is receiving assistance.
A local collection network
Seven community collection points help support the operation, according to the report. Its partners include mosques and local grocers in Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Pickering and Bowmanville.
The organization identifies a dedicated facility as its next priority. Its report says a permanent location would provide better storage and refrigeration, more room for volunteers to pack groceries, and capacity to expand the delivery operation.
The October 15 report says the food bank is seeking introductions to property owners, businesses and community organizations that could help identify an appropriate space. No secured location or opening date has been announced.
People seeking food support or information about volunteering can use the Rozi Roti Food Bank website. The reported meal milestone covers its Durham food-bank work; the organization distinguishes that activity from a separate digital-skills initiative.
