DCDSB new permanent staff were formally welcomed during the Durham Catholic District School Board’s annual system-wide Mass and commissioning celebration in Whitby.
The event brought clergy, trustees, employees and families together at St. John the Evangelist Parish. The board described the gathering as a tradition recognizing permanent school-based employees as they begin new roles in Catholic education.
Father Francisco presided over the Mass and led prayers and reflections. DCDSB thanked the parish for hosting the celebration.
Commissioning focuses on service
During the commissioning, the new employees were invited to understand their work as a vocation and support students’ faith, learning and well-being.
The board’s notice does not list the number of employees commissioned, their schools or the job classifications represented. It also does not state the exact date on which the ceremony was held.
DCDSB serves Catholic elementary and secondary students across Durham Region. Its annual commissioning is separate from ordinary hiring notices because it marks the beginning of permanent service through a board-wide faith celebration.
The update also concerns a different event from the recent 25th anniversary of All Saints Catholic Secondary School, which All About Durham covered separately.
