Canadians are being told to immediately stop using thousands of XO Poppy portable power banks after Health Canada issued a recall over potential fire and burn hazards.

Why the XO Poppy power banks are being recalled

According to Health Canada, the lithium-ion battery inside the power bank may overheat while the device is charging.

The battery can become hot enough to cause melting around the charging port, creating potential fire and burn hazards.

Consumers should stop charging or using an affected device immediately rather than continuing to use it while waiting to return it.

As of Aug. 11, 2026, the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada involving the recalled products.

About 30,000 units sold in Canada

Health Canada says approximately 30,000 affected XO Poppy power banks were sold across Canada between May 2024 and March 2026.

The products were manufactured in Vietnam and came with a USB-C charging cable.

TJX Canada of Mississauga is identified as the retailer, while Truststone Group of New York is listed as the manufacturer.

The federal recall notice does not provide a breakdown showing how many affected units were sold in Durham Region or at individual stores.

Which power banks are affected?

The XO Poppy power bank recall includes numerous model numbers, including:

PBK5M-DB1, PBK5M-F10, PY PBK5MWN-BLS, PY-PBK5M-B01, PY-PBK5M-BF2, PY-PBK5M-BW8, PY-PBK5M-CH1, PY-PBK5M-CO4, PY-PBK5M-EY2, PY-PBK5M-F10, PY-PBK5M-F12, PY-PBK5M-FL8, PY-PBK5M-GVF, PY-PBK5M-HPO, PY-PBK5M-LM4, PY-PBK5M-R04, PY-PBK5M-SC1, PY-PBK5M-T01, PY-PBK5M-T04 and PY-PBK5M-T07.

Additional affected models include PY-PBK5MAWN-BLU, PY-PBK5MAWN-ORN, PY-PBK5MB-HEM, PY-PBK5MB-SLV, PY-PBK5MBC-LP1, PY-PBK5MH-T06, PY-PBK5MWN-BW1, PY-PBK5MWN-CH1, PY-PBK5MWN-CO5 and PY-PBK5MWN-VD3.

Consumers should compare the model number on their device with Health Canada’s official recall list.

Where recalled power banks can be returned

Health Canada says consumers should immediately stop using affected power banks and return them to any:

  • HomeSense
  • Winners
  • Marshalls

Consumers can receive a refund through those retailers.

Anyone seeking additional information can contact TJX Canada at 1-800-646-9466, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

Consumers should also remember that recalled products cannot legally be sold, redistributed or even given away in Canada under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

Durham residents who own one of the affected portable chargers should check its model number and follow Health Canada’s return instructions rather than continuing to charge or use the device.
