Ontario Tech Ridgebacks soccer suffered its first loss of the 2026 season on Saturday, September 12, as the women’s team fell 2-1 to the nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues in Oshawa.
Toronto, ranked No. 5 nationally, struck in the second minute. First-year forward Mikaela Milczarek worked around the Ontario Tech defence before connecting with third-year forward Kimee Liu, whose header produced her first goal for the Varsity Blues.
The early goal left the Ridgebacks chasing the match, but they responded by increasing the pressure in search of an equalizer. Toronto’s defence kept the hosts from drawing level during the first half, while Blues goalkeeper Maria Godoy-Atrash stopped a chance from Mackenzie Scott in the 25th minute.
Toronto builds a two-goal lead
The Varsity Blues doubled their advantage before halftime. Liu was involved again, this time supplying the assist as Ines Delhomelle moved behind the defence and scored past Ontario Tech goalkeeper Jacqueline Cardy.
That goal sent Toronto into the break with a 2-0 lead. Ontario Tech answered after halftime when Scott found the net, cutting the deficit to one and giving the Ridgebacks a route back into the match.
The home side continued to press for an equalizer during the second half. Godoy-Atrash made seven saves after the break, while defender Samantha Gravina produced two late blocks as Ontario Tech pushed forward.
Toronto then protected possession in midfield and made a final clearance to close out the 2-1 victory. The result ended Ontario Tech’s unbeaten start while giving the nationally ranked visitors an important road win.
Ridgebacks’ first setback of 2026
Cardy faced immediate pressure in goal, but the Ridgebacks remained within reach throughout the second half after Scott’s response. Ontario Tech’s late attacking spell forced Toronto to defend until the final moments.
The match was one of two University of Toronto soccer fixtures against Ontario Tech in Oshawa on Saturday. The women’s result was reported separately from the men’s contest because each involved a different Ridgebacks team and outcome.
Ontario Tech supporters should consult the Ridgebacks’ official schedule for the team’s next fixture and any updates to kickoff times or venue information.
