An Oshawa school threat prompted a lockdown at one high school and hold-and-secure measures at two nearby schools Friday morning before police gave the all-clear.
Durham Regional Police were called to Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School on Stevenson Road North, near Rossland Road West, shortly after 10 a.m. on October 9.
Three schools took safety precautions
Paul Dwyer was placed in lockdown while officers searched the school for anything dangerous or suspicious. A lockdown generally keeps students and staff secured inside classrooms while police investigate a possible threat within or directly involving a school.
Adelaide McLaughlin Public School and R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate and Vocational Institute were placed in hold and secure. That measure secures exterior doors while normal activity can continue inside, depending on instructions from school officials.
Durham Radio News and CityNews reported that officers cleared the high school as part of the investigation. The nature and origin of the threat were not publicly detailed.
Measures lifted before 11:30 a.m.
Police said shortly before 11:30 a.m. that the lockdown and both hold-and-secure orders had been lifted. Investigators reported there was no threat to public safety.
No injuries were reported in the available police information or newsroom updates. Police had not announced an arrest or charges when the safety measures were lifted.
The Oshawa school threat disrupted three schools for roughly an hour. Families should rely on direct messages from their school board or school for any later operational updates.
