Families and community members can enjoy a wide range of activities designed to showcase the essential services provided by the Works Department. From May 17 to 23, municipalities across North America celebrate Durham National Public Works Week. In Durham Region, the week is dedicated to recognizing the essential services provided by Public Works staff to residents and businesses every day. These services include road maintenance, water supply management, wastewater treatment, waste collection and numerous other critical infrastructure operations that keep the region running smoothly.
On behalf of The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Works Committee, John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO, has proclaimed the week of May 17 to 23 as National Public Works Week in Durham Region.
The Touch-a-Truck activity is always a popular attraction, giving children and adults alike the chance to get up close with the heavy machinery and specialized vehicles used by Public Works crews across the region. The heavy equipment simulator offers a unique hands-on experience that demonstrates the skill and precision required to operate these powerful machines safely.
The information booths will provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about the various services offered by the Works Department and how these services impact their daily lives. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and share insights about the important work they do throughout the year.
This family-friendly event is a great way to celebrate the dedicated public works professionals who maintain and improve the infrastructure that Durham Region residents rely on every day. The region encourages everyone to come out, learn something new and enjoy a day of community fun.
