Oshawa Man Break-In Arrest Follows OPP Response

An Oshawa Man Break-In Arrest followed an early-morning Ontario Provincial Police response to a reported break and enter in progress in Emily Township.

City of Kawartha Lakes OPP officers were called to the incident at approximately 5:39 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4. Police arrested a 36-year-old Oshawa resident following their response.

Investigators allege that the accused may also be connected to other break-and-enter incidents. Police said some of those possible offences may have occurred in multiple jurisdictions and remain under investigation by other police services.

Police respond to reported break-in

Officers were dispatched after receiving a report of an active break and enter at a property in Emily Township, which forms part of the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Police have not released further information about the property involved, how entry was allegedly gained or whether anyone was inside the residence at the time.

No injuries were reported in the initial police information.

Following the investigation, officers took the Oshawa man into custody and laid several charges.

Oshawa resident faces three charges

The accused has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime valued at less than $5,000.

He is also charged with breaking and entering a dwelling house with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Two additional charges allege that he failed to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody and was expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay for a bail hearing later on Tuesday.

A bail hearing determines whether an accused person will remain in custody or be released under conditions while the charges proceed through the court system. It does not determine guilt or innocence.

Other incidents remain under investigation

OPP investigators allege that the suspect may be responsible for other break-and-enter offences.

Police said the investigation could involve incidents across more than one jurisdiction. Other police services may therefore be reviewing related reports, evidence or surveillance footage to determine whether there is a connection.

No additional charges or locations were confirmed in the initial release.

The Oshawa Man Break-In Arrest remains part of an active investigation, and police have asked members of the public to provide any information that could assist officers.

Police seek surveillance footage

City of Kawartha Lakes OPP are asking residents and property owners in the area to review available surveillance recordings.

Anyone with doorbell-camera footage, security video or other information connected to suspicious activity is encouraged to contact police if investigators have not already spoken with them.

Useful footage could include people, vehicles or unusual activity recorded near the location before or after the reported break-in.

Residents should preserve the original recording rather than editing or compressing it, as timestamps and image quality may be important to investigators.

Charges remain allegations

Police charges are allegations and must be tested through the court process.

The accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Further information could become available following the bail hearing or as investigators examine whether other incidents are connected.

The Oshawa Man Break-In Arrest provides a Durham Region connection because the accused is from Oshawa, although the reported offence occurred outside the region in Emily Township.

Police have not announced whether the investigation has resulted in additional arrests or recovered property beyond the possession charge. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP.
