A verbal confrontation on the streets of Ajax has resulted in serious criminal charges after a man brandished a firearm and threatened another individual. The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) characterized the event as an isolated incident, noting that the two parties involved were known to one another, which likely prevented a broader risk to public safety.
The Altercation in Ajax
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 13, 2026, near the intersection of Monarch Avenue and Bayly Street in Ajax. Officers responded to an emergency call regarding an armed person following reports of a heated argument between two men.
According to investigators, the verbal dispute took a dangerous turn when one of the men produced a firearm and made direct threats against the other. The suspect fled the scene before police units arrived. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any physical injuries during the encounter, though the presence of a weapon prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by the West Crime Team.
Arrest and Search in Oshawa
Following weeks of investigative work, police successfully tracked the suspect. On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, members of the West Crime Team, supported by the East Crime Team and the Tactical Support Unit, located and apprehended the individual without further incident.
Following the arrest, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence in Oshawa. During the search, officers discovered and seized an imitation firearm believed to be the weapon used during the Ajax confrontation. While the weapon was an imitation, police emphasize that under the Criminal Code, using an imitation firearm to threaten or commit a crime carries the same weight as using a real firearm due to the perceived danger to the public and victims.
