A routine evening at the Central East Division headquarters turned into a scene of chaos on Wednesday after an Oshawa man allegedly breached a secure area and launched a violent attack on law enforcement. On the evening of April 8, 2026, two Durham Regional Police officers sustained significant injuries in a confrontation within a restricted parking lot, resulting in the deployment of a taser and the subsequent arrest of a 25-year-old suspect.
Security Breach at Central East Division
The incident began at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the police facility located at 77 Centre St. S. in downtown Oshawa. According to investigators, a man with no fixed address managed to enter the police-only parking lot, a zone strictly reserved for authorized personnel and secure vehicle storage. Once inside the restricted area, the suspect confronted two officers who were on duty at the time. Police reports indicate that the man immediately became aggressive and assaulted both officers without provocation. The intensity of the attack resulted in an emergency alert for “immediate assistance” being broadcast across the regional network, as the officers struggled to defend themselves against the violent suspect.
Emergency Response and Taser Deployment
Multiple officers from within the Central East Division responded to the distress call within seconds. To safely bring the suspect under control and prevent further injury to the staff or the public, responding officers deployed a conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a taser. The suspect was successfully restrained and taken into custody following the deployment. The two original officers involved in the struggle were quickly attended to by paramedics and transported to a local hospital in Oshawa. While their injuries are described as “significant” and serious, DRPS officials have confirmed they are currently in stable, non-life-threatening condition. The assault highlights the unpredictable dangers faced by officers, even within the presumed safety of a secure police precinct.
Charges and Ongoing Investigation
Durham Regional Police have identified the accused as Mustafa Sadat, 25, who is listed as having no fixed address. Following the incident in Oshawa, Sadat has been formally charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of assaulting a peace officer. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing. Authorities are currently treating the breach of the secure lot as a serious security matter and are looking for further context regarding the suspect’s actions leading up to the attack. Anyone who may have witnessed the suspect in the downtown Oshawa area prior to the incident, or anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage near the station, is urged to contact the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520.
