Port Perry Agricultural Society (PPAS) says uncertainty remains around the future of the Port Perry Fairgrounds, citing what it calls “mixed messaging” from Scugog Township despite an ongoing public consultation.
PPAS said the consulting firm leading the process, Darwin Pivot, has stated its role is only to gather and report community feedback, not to support a predetermined outcome such as selling the fairgrounds. However, PPAS noted that public comments suggesting council may still choose to sell the property have increased skepticism about whether public input will influence the final decision.
The organization also raised concerns after township administration indicated council will decide in February whether to continue further community engagement, despite nearly $100,000 being spent on the consultation.
PPAS reiterated its long-standing position that the Fairgrounds Park should be protected in full, secured through a new lease, and used more extensively for community benefit.
“We will continue to engage in good faith and advocate for the fairgrounds,” said PPAS president Paul Puckrin, encouraging residents to remain involved in the consultation process.
