The long-planned redevelopment of Uxbridge Hospital has taken a significant step forward, with Infrastructure Ontario and Oak Valley Health issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify teams capable of delivering the major project.
The RFQ marks the first stage in the contractor selection process. Submissions will be evaluated to shortlist teams with the necessary construction expertise and financial capacity to undertake a project of this scale. Shortlisted proponents will later be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals, expected to be released in the summer of 2026.
Companies interested in the project must register through MERX to access RFQ documents.
Early construction work on the new hospital is already underway, following a groundbreaking ceremony held in June attended by Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones and Oak Valley Health officials.
The redeveloped Uxbridge Hospital will significantly expand health care capacity and services in the community. Planned features include:
-
Up to 11 additional inpatient beds, increasing total capacity to 31 beds
-
Expanded diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory, laboratory, and pharmacy services
-
Improved access to inpatient, emergency, and ambulatory care
The project also includes the construction of a new 192-bed long-term care home on the hospital campus, creating an integrated health care hub.
The redevelopment is being delivered using a Design-Bid-Build model, with architects and engineers completing detailed design documents before contractor selection. Once complete, the new hospital will span approximately 140,000 square feet.
Clinical areas in the redeveloped facility will include ambulatory, emergency, inpatient, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, administrative, and support services.
Already completed on the site is the Oak Tree Medical Centre, an ambulatory care building that will house several hospital services. Together with the new hospital and long-term care home, the campus will form a co-located health hub designed to improve patient experience and meet the growing health care needs of Uxbridge and Durham Region residents.
