Jess Hann Branch renovations will temporarily close the south Oshawa library beginning Sept. 8 as Oshawa Public Libraries completes interior upgrades.
The Jess Hann Branch is scheduled to remain closed from Tuesday, Sept. 8 through Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, according to the library’s official closure calendar.
The work will include new carpeting and interior painting as the branch receives updates ahead of its 50th anniversary in 2027.
Renovations Planned for Aging Interior
The Jess Hann Branch opened in 1977.
Oshawa Public Libraries previously identified replacing the branch’s aging carpet and repainting the interior as priorities for 2026.
Budget planning documents recommended using up to $100,000 from the South Oshawa Reserve for the improvements.
What Happens to Holds During the Closure
Library users will still be able to return borrowed materials using an external return box at the Jess Hann Branch during the closure.
According to the supplied report, holds designated for pickup at Jess Hann will remain available there until 5 p.m. on Sept. 3.
After that date, holds will be transferred to the McLaughlin Branch, unless users temporarily suspend their holds through their online library accounts.
Other Oshawa Library Branches Remain Open
Oshawa Public Libraries’ other three full-service branches will continue operating during the renovation period:
- McLaughlin Branch
- John Aker Northview Branch
- Delpark Homes Centre Branch
A library kiosk is also available at the Civic Recreation Complex.
Closure Scheduled Through Oct. 12
The library’s current official calendar lists the renovation closure through Oct. 12, rather than an unspecified late-October reopening.
Residents who regularly use the Jess Hann Branch should therefore plan to use one of Oshawa’s other library locations while the work is underway.
The Jess Hann Branch renovations are intended to refresh the building’s interior while extending the life of the longstanding south Oshawa library facility.
