Kars on King Oshawa returns to downtown streets today, Friday, Aug. 21, bringing hundreds of classic cars, live music, family activities and several road closures.
The free City of Oshawa event runs from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with activities stretching through the downtown core around King, Simcoe, Bond and surrounding streets.
The City says close to 400 vehicles will be displayed, ranging from classic automobiles to vintage vehicles brought by private owners and local car clubs.
Nearly 400 Classic Vehicles Coming Downtown
Classic car displays will fill King Street, Simcoe Street, Celina Street, Ontario Street and other parts of downtown.
The Durham Region Classic Mustang Club and Corvettes of Durham will also display vehicles during the event.
Vehicle registration is already closed, and participating cars generally must be 1991 models or older, according to the City’s event rules.
Live Music and Family Activities
Entertainment begins alongside the event at 3:30 p.m.
The main stage at Bond and Simcoe streets will feature the Fabulous Tonemasters at 3:30 p.m., Kim & Co. at 5:45 p.m. and Rolling Stones tribute band The Blushing Brides at 7:30 p.m.
Other attractions include a zip line, inflatable games, an antique car carousel, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon twisting and street performances.
Food trucks, downtown restaurants, craft vendors and community organizations will also participate.
Touch-A-Truck Runs at Tribute Communities Centre
The Tribute Communities Centre will host its 12th annual Touch-A-Truck event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
More than 40 vehicles will be available for children and families to explore. Admission is free, with the event supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham.
The Canadian Automotive Museum at 99 Simcoe St. S. will also remain open until 9 p.m. during Kars on King.
Downtown Oshawa Road Closures
Motorists should expect significant traffic changes throughout Friday.
Road closures affect portions of King Street, Bond Street, Simcoe Street and several surrounding downtown streets, with some restrictions continuing into Saturday morning.
Charles Street between Athol and Bruce streets is also closed from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for Touch-A-Truck.
Durham Region Transit will continue operating on its regular weekday schedule, although buses will be detoured around streets closed for Kars on King.
Visitors driving downtown can use municipal parking facilities including Parking Garages 1 and 3 and designated city lots, subject to regular parking rules and fees.
With hundreds of vehicles and large crowds expected, anyone travelling through the downtown core should allow additional time.
