Free outdoor music, theatre and movie programming will continue across Oshawa parks throughout the remainder of the summer.
The Oshawa Events in the Park series brings family-friendly entertainment to Memorial Park, Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park and Columbus Park through September 11. Residents are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs, while local food trucks will offer refreshments at selected performances.
The series began on July 9 and includes several remaining events featuring local and visiting musicians, live theatre and an outdoor movie.
Oshawa Events in the Park Continues With Jazz
The next performance takes place Thursday, July 30, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, located at 110 Simcoe Street South.
Just Us Jazz will perform a selection of jazz standards, blues and familiar favourites. The local group includes Bruce Gorrie, Dean MacDonald, Doug Matthews and Duncan Hopkins.
Masala Box Food Truck, Mooo La La’s Ice Cream Bus and True North Lemonade Co. are scheduled to attend the July 30 event.
Admission is free, and advance registration is not listed as a requirement.
August Performances Move to the Waterfront
The series moves to Ed Broadbent Waterfront Park, located at 169 Harbour Road, for Tuesday evening performances in August.
On August 4, four-piece indie-folk group I, the Mountain will perform from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The band is known for vocal harmonies and interactive live performances.
Members of Oshawa Little Theatre will present live music and theatre on August 11 during the same evening time slot.
The City’s overall schedule also lists an August 18 event at the waterfront park. However, the currently accessible event description does not identify the scheduled performer, so residents should consult the City’s official page for updated details.
Two performers will share the August 25 program. Husband-and-wife alt-folk duo Candace & Michael will perform from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., followed by Irish-born, Canadian-raised singer-songwriter James Wilson from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Food trucks scheduled for the August events include Donkey Kone, Sanny Hotdog and True North Lemonade Co.
Civic Band Concerts Return to Memorial Park
The Oshawa Civic Band will also present two remaining summer concerts at the McLaughlin Bandshell in Memorial Park.
The performances are scheduled for August 5 and August 26 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The band has performed outdoor concerts at the bandshell since 1942 and presents a mixture of classics, marches and popular music.
These concerts are listed alongside the main Events in the Park program but take place on Wednesday evenings.
Movie Night Closes the Summer Series
The final Oshawa Events in the Park program will be an outdoor movie at Columbus Park on Friday, September 11.
The movie is expected to begin at dusk at approximately 8 p.m. Residents can bring their own chairs, blankets and snacks.
The City plans to invite residents to vote for the movie selection through its social-media channels in August.
