Following the examples of Ajax, Pickering, and Oshawa, the Town of Whitby is set to implement Whitby Waterfront Paid Parking at its municipal waterfront parks and surrounding streets to manage congestion and improve access for visitors and residents. The program will operate annually from May to October, charging non-residents while providing free parking for Whitby residents through a digital registration system. Council highlighted that peak usage during these months has created challenges for accessibility and visitor experience. Town staff have been directed to report back by April with proposed bylaw amendments, a fee structure, and an implementation plan to ensure the program is operational for the 2026 summer season, balancing convenience, accessibility, and effective management of Whitby’s popular waterfront areas.
